Reflexology is a complementary therapy founded on the theory that different points on your feet and hands correspond with organs, glands and structure of the body. By applying gentle pressure to these points or areas, a Reflexologist can help the body restore its own healthy balance and in doing so, aids relaxation. The deep relaxation that Reflexology can induce helps relieve tension and aids circulation, increasing the flow of nutrients, oxygen and energy to the body.
Reflexology is an holistic therapy that treats the whole body and mind, allowing it the opportunity to heal, restore and energise itself. Reflexology is suitable for any gender and age, from baby to adult, and can be especially helpful for long-term and recurring conditions. Whilst Reflexologists do not diagnose and do not claim it can be a cure, it is a therapy that can very effectively complement conventional medicine.
I am a fully qualified and insured Reflexologist based in Denham, Buckinghamshire where I work from a tranquil treatment room located on an old Farm estate.
I have worked backstage in Theatre for many years, which can be a highly stressful and demanding environment. My passion for Reflexology sprang from the profound positive effects it had on me when I was looking to make improvements to my health and calm my stress. I continue to be amazed daily about how effective this non-invasive therapy can be in so many areas of health and well-being.
Whether you are looking for support with an existing health condition, with pregnancy, with women's or men’s health, want to reduce your day-to-day stress levels or would just like a little relaxation time, my aim is to get you feeling happier, healthier and energised with specially tailored Reflexology treatments.
I have a great enthusiasm for continued learning and have completed additional specialist training for Pregnancy and also for support with the Menopause.
I am a full member of the Association of Reflexologists.
What happens in a treatment?
We will start with a consultation where we talk through your health and lifestyle, which enables me to fully tailor your treatment to suit you and enable me to signpost possible improvements you can make to maximise your well-being following the treatment.
I will ask you to sign a consent form for treatment. This, along with any information you give me, will be kept strictly confidential in accordance with my privacy policy and GDPR regulations.
You will then relax, reclined in a comfortable, gently heated chair, supported by pillows and covered with a soft blanket in the calm, tranquil setting of my treatment room with soft music playing in the background accompanied by the birds tweeting outside the window.
I will then apply pressure to reflex points on your bare feet and lower legs or hands and arms. During the treatment, I will be aware of the status of your feet or hands, noticing how they feel, the temperature and colour and all these things play a part in understanding which areas of your body - as reflected through your feet or hands - require a bit more care and attention.
Following the treatment, we will discuss how you feel and anything that flagged up during the session.
Does it hurt or tickle?
You might find some areas feel sensitive to the touch, but Reflexology does not involve hard pressing in the way, for example, a sports massage might. You may feel areas of tenderness on various points that I work during the treatment, but generally the experience should be deeply relaxing.
Reflexology doesn't tickle! Many people think that Reflexology isn’t for them as they have ticklish feet or are worried about their feet being seen or touched, but in my experience, even the most ticklish of clients are surprised that they can relax and enjoy the benefits of Reflexology. Hand reflexology can be used, just as effectively, as an alternative to feet if preferred.
Can you diagnose my health problems?
Reflexologists cannot claim to diagnose or cure, but during a treatment we get 'feedback' as to which parts of the body are working well and which are not. Sometimes Reflexology will highlight a specific area which is struggling or working hard to maintain your wellbeing; if a particular reflex point shows this kind of reaction, I'll discuss it with you at the end of the session.
How many treatments will I need?
Everyone is different and their response to Reflexology can be immediate or sometimes take longer than one appointment depending on what they are presenting with.
As a guide, regular weekly or two weekly treatments can be preferable initially for the body to heal and return to its natural balance. Subsequent ‘maintenance’ sessions that are more spread out, every 4 to 6 weeks, can then be continued to sustain your optimal well-being.
How will I feel after a treatment?
Usually, after a treatment your tension will feel reduced and you will have a great sense of relaxation. A number of my clients say they feel they float out of the treatment room!
Following a treatment, you may notice yourself sleeping better and find your mood and sense of wellbeing improved. Other aspects of your wellbeing may improve too, especially symptoms of stress; however, this, as with any treatment, varies in degrees on an individual basis.
Is Reflexology suitable for me and will it help me?
Reflexology is a therapy which can be received by anyone at any age, from newborn babies to those receiving end of life care, and everyone in between. However, there may occasionally be times with some conditions when it is not suitable to receive a Reflexology treatment and this will be discussed prior to your session.
Reflexology is a very individual treatment which is tailored to you as a whole person, taking into account both physical and non-physical factors that might be affecting your wellbeing. As with any treatment, this will work better for some people than others but most find it extremely effective.
